Larry Helm Sr. began his spiritual journey in 1975 under the pastorship of Bishop Nelson Turner at Greater Bethlehem Temple in Omaha, Nebraska. Larry was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus that same year and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost seven days later.

Larry quickly began servanthood in his home church by serving in the choir, serving dinners, and participating in other activities in the church.  After some time of faithful service Larry developed a desire to serve his pastor in a greater capacity and asked Bishop Turner if he could assist him in any way to help further facilitate the Bishop’s pastorship as well as contribute to the advancement of the ministry of Greater Bethlehem Temple.

Bishop Helm has proven to be a skilled entrepreneur. He later started his own construction company in 1980 to 2021 and a clothing store in 1994 to 2022.

At an early age, between the ages of five and seven Larry knew he had a calling on his life, but for years he was afraid to acknowledge it for fear that people would assume that “he just wanted to be like some other preachers carrying a brief case and saying a few words.” Therefore, he stayed with Bishop Turner for a total of twenty-seven years.  Then God moved him from there to New Hope Apostolic Church pastored by Bishop Lance Foster.  Bishop Foster’s father actually started the church that Bishop Turner pastored. When Larry finally approached Bishop Foster about his calling to the ministry Bishop Foster replied that he was “already aware of It” and instructed him to begin his ministry.  So, Brother Helm began his ministry under the tutelage of Evangelist Ford and her daughter, Evangelist Ramona.  The early ministry started with various outreach programs such as a prison ministry and visiting and working with souls at homeless shelters.  During this time, several local pastors gave him the opportunity to speak in their churches.  And in the year 2001 he was introduced to Pastor Edna Perkins who would eventually license him, after which he opened his first church, New Beginning in Christ with approximately thirty-five members.  After a few years later God blessed them to purchase a building and they renamed the church New Beginning Apostolic Church.  Because of his conviction concerning the truth of the Apostolic doctrine, Pastor Helm felt that the descriptive word “apostolic” had to be included in the renaming of the church in respect to God.

Several years later Pastor Helm became acquainted with Apostle Harrison Nichols of Houston, Texas.  His friendship with Apostle Nichols and Lady Nichols clicked from the start.  Pastor Helm was elevated to Bishop under Apostle Nichols and was more than eager to quickly join Apostle Nichols when Apostle Nichols re-started his organization World Outreach Christian Assembly.  Even though Bishop Helm was extremely happy about his elevation to Bishop, at the same time he was a bit apprehensive because he was not sure of how he would be received at home in this new position and title. However, he stepped out on faith and was well received under his new title.

Bishop Helm testifies that, “I knew I had a calling on my life, and I would be a minister, but I never saw the position that I am currently in.  God never told me I would be a pastor.  I welcome it all with open arms.  I have been in the Apostolic Jesus Name baptism doctrine since 1975 and this is all I know and strongly believe in and stand on.  I have found it to be true.  And I hope through our organization, World Outreach Christian Assembly that we can bring more people to Christ and more churches to our fellowship.  In Jesus Name.”
